Havana, Feb 6.- Washington denied a US cycling team permission to participate at the 32nd Cuba Cycling Tour, Granma daily reports.

The President of the Cuban Cycling Federation José Peláez told the daily that the US team was among the guests to the event, scheduled for February 13-15.

Pelaez, who is also the president of the Pan-American Cycling Federation, received a letter from the US cycling authorities in which they explained that "unfortunately our team will not be able to travel to Cuba, we have just spoken with Washington and they say they need six weeks to grant travel permission."

The US cycling authorities said that due to unknown reasons the coach in charge of the US team did not warn about such an inconvenience until last Wednesday.

The letter, signed by Shawn Farrel, technical director of the US Cycling Federation, extends appreciation for the invitation and says they will plan another trip for the 2008 season. The US team was looking forward to the event, in which US Todd Herriot took the victory in 2003.(ACN)
