Havana, Jan 25 (ACN) Cuba’s outstanding accomplishments in the creation of natural antioxidant products will be presented at the International Conference of Oxidative Stress (HAVANA-REDOX 2007) kicking off today in Havana.

The meeting brings together near 200 specialists from some 20 nations, of them 100 Cubans, who will discuss oxidative stress and related diseases, biomarkers and methods of diagnosis, antioxidants, nutritional and pharmacological interventions.

The event, which will run until Saturday, is sponsored by the Center of Studies for Biologic Research and Assessment of the Institute of Pharmacy and Food of the University of Havana and the International Society for the Investigation of Free Radicals.

At the conference, Cuban experts will brief the audience on the application of innovative methods of diagnosis on the island and on the production of antioxidants such as the VIMANG, a product obtained from the bark of the mango tree, which has proven effective in treatments against diabetes and bronchial asthma.

VIMANG is also anti-inflammatory, has a positive effects on the immune system, prevents and repairs damage associated to oxidative stress and destroy free radicals in the body with greater effectiveness than other antioxidant products.
